Steam Superheater

Steam superheater

With our stainless steel steam superheaters you can heat the steam you have already generated further, without increasing the working pressure. This makes steam temperatures above 184 °C achievable, even at pressures below 10bar(g).

The process of steam superheating

With our stainless steel steam superheaters you heat the steam already generated even further, without increasing the working pressure. This makes steam temperatures above 184 °C achievable, even at pressures below 10 bar(g).

In the standard version, our electric steam generators produce a maximum pressure of 10 bar(g). This corresponds to a steam temperature of approx. 184 °C. For processes that require an even higher steam temperature, the use of steam superheaters is a suitable option.

Superheated steam — applications and benefits

Superheated steam is used when the steam must not form any condensation or when high temperatures are required for the process. As superheated steam is above its saturation temperature, it can transfer heat without condensing immediately and is therefore particularly suitable for drying, sterilisation and energy generation processes.

  • No condensate forming on the first heat transfer surfaces
  • Higher process temperatures possible than with saturated steam
  • Improved efficiency in steam turbines thanks to less moisture forming
  • Drying of products without additional moisture input

Why higher steam temperatures?

In many industries, such as the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, higher steam temperatures are required for certain processes in order to accelerate chemical reactions or to meet sterilisation requirements. The greater temperature difference also improves the efficiency of heat transfer and leads to faster, more uniform heating.

Example applications

  • Chemicals: Accelerating reactions
  • Pharmaceuticals: Sterilisation at defined levels
  • Automotive: Filter element solidification
  • Process heat: higher heat transfer efficiency

Individually designed

The electrical connected load and the dimensions depend on the medium to be heated and on the respective flow rate. Our steam superheaters can be integrated easily into existing steam generator systems — we configure every system individually for your process.

Frequently asked questions

What is a steam superheater used for?

A steam superheater raises the steam temperature above the saturated steam temperature associated with the boiler pressure – for example above 184 °C – without you having to increase the boiler pressure. Typical for processes in the chemical, pharmaceutical and industrial sectors that require superheated steam.

Can the Steam superheater be combined with an existing steam generator?

Yes. The steam superheater is installed downstream of the steam source. We match its output and connections to your existing or new plant.

How is the Steam superheater heated?

Purely electrically – with no combustion and no flue gas system. The required steam temperature is reached under electrical control.

What output do I need?

That depends on the throughput as well as the inlet and target temperature of your process. Tell us your process data – we will size the steam superheater accordingly.

Do you carry out commissioning and maintenance?

Yes. On request, our technicians handle commissioning, instruction and regular maintenance.
