Steam supply as critical hospital infrastructure
The reliable provision of steam is a central element of modern hospital infrastructure. Whether in central sterile services (ZSVA) or the reprocessing unit for medical devices (AEMP), in operating theatre areas or in the large-scale kitchen – numerous processes depend on a continuous supply of high-quality steam.
Electric steam generators offer a particularly efficient, precise and hygienically safe solution here. We specialise in the development and implementation of customer-specific systems and already count several hospitals in Germany and Europe among our references.
From centralised to decentralised steam generation
Many hospitals still have historically grown, central steam networks that supply large parts of the infrastructure – from sterilisation through to heating applications. However, these systems are frequently associated with high energy losses, complex distribution and limited controllability.
A clear trend is therefore moving towards decentralised steam generation, in which steam is generated specifically where it is actually needed – in the ZSVA/AEMP or in specific process applications, for example.
We actively support hospitals in this transformation: by reducing distribution losses thanks to short pipe runs, increasing energy efficiency through demand-based steam generation, improved controllability and operational reliability, as well as decoupling steam and heating systems, so that classic applications such as space heating can be converted to more efficient technologies such as hot water or low-temperature systems.
The targeted substitution of central steam infrastructures creates a future-proof, economical and sustainable solution that meets both the rising energy requirements and the operational requirements of modern hospitals.
Areas of application in the hospital
ZSVA / AEMP (sterilisation)
The standard-compliant reprocessing of medical devices requires clean steam that meets the high requirements such as the RKI guidelines and the relevant standards. Our systems ensure a constant, validatable steam quality for sterilisation processes. This can be implemented either as a central large unit or decentrally, matched to the respective consumer.
Cleaning and disinfection systems for beds
In the automated cleaning and sterilisation of hospital beds, clean steam is likewise an essential component. Our systems ensure stable temperatures and reproducible processes.
Air humidification in operating theatre areas
In ventilation and air-conditioning systems in accordance with DIN 1946-4, controlled air humidity plays an important role for operational reliability and comfort. Hygienically designed steam humidification systems avoid aerosol formation and support the requirements of VDI 6022 and DGKH guidelines. The use of cleanly generated steam is a decisive advantage here.
Hospital kitchens and catering systems
Steam is used in large-scale kitchens for gentle cooking processes, regeneration systems and food production. Our systems deliver the required steam output as needed and efficiently.
Clean steam from stainless steel – hygienic and standard-compliant
In sensitive medical applications, the choice of material is of the highest priority. That is why all steam- and water-carrying components of our steam generators are consistently made of stainless steel.
This offers maximum corrosion resistance, avoids contamination and particle ingress, safeguards the clean steam quality and ensures conformity with hygiene requirements and RKI guidelines. Our systems are therefore optimally suited for use in hygiene-critical areas such as the ZSVA/AEMP and operating theatre technology.
Water treatment for demineralised water – everything from a single source
The quality of the feedwater is decisive for the steam quality and the operational reliability of the system. On request, we offer the complete integration of the necessary water treatment for demineralised water (fully demineralised water).
This includes softening systems to reduce hardness-forming ions and to protect the plant technology, reverse osmosis systems to remove dissolved salts and contaminants, BOB operation (72 hours) to ensure hygienic operating conditions, as well as dosing systems for the precise conditioning of the water.
The coordinated system solution ensures consistently high steam quality as well as a long service life of the components.
Maintenance, service and operational reliability
Uninterrupted operation is essential in a hospital. That is why we take on not only the planning and delivery of the systems, but also their regular maintenance and servicing by our own service technicians.
This includes inspection and preventive maintenance, the testing of safety-relevant components, support with inspections and official requirements, as well as the ongoing optimisation of the system parameters.
Steam generation for the highest requirements in healthcare
The requirements placed on steam generators in hospitals are complex: the highest hygiene standards, absolute reliability and standard-compliant design are indispensable. With tailor-made solutions, consistent stainless steel design, integrated water treatment and comprehensive service, we offer a powerful and future-proof solution for hospitals worldwide.
